Atlanta Home is the Paradigm of Re-Purposing Unusual Buildings to Homes
Historic Atlanta area mill becomes one couple’s dream home.
In cities across the country including Atlanta, reclaiming wood for flooring and walls is one thing but the latest trend of reclaiming unused, unusual buildings and remodeling them into homes is taking the market by storm. From cargo containers to old churches, people are re-purposing old buildings and the results are stunning and unique.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution recently featured a 5 story home remodeled out of a historic Roswell mill. The home includes one of the owner’s art studio on the bottom floor to their sitting area on the 5th floor. And of course, no remodeling job would be complete without incorporating reclaimed antique heart pine beams, a reclaimed pine ceiling, heart pine floors and rustic wooden railings. The home has a contemporary heart with the expected rustic touches due to the age of the building. Set on a large wooden lot due to the locals traditionally replanting their Christmas trees on the property, the owners used lots of open space and windows to bring as much of the surrounding beauty indoors.
